Mazatlan
Welcome to Mazatlan!

I can recommend Hotel La Siesta in Mazatlan. It's
basic but clean and very reasonably priced,
overlooking the beach (though with a road in between)
in Viejo Mazatlan. Viejo Mazatlan is coming back to
life after years of neglect, and to my mind it is far
superior to the so-called Zona Dorada, where most
tourists go. Zona Dorada is like one gigantic Senor
Frog's, totally lacking in character, whereas Viejo
Mazatlan is graceful and pleasant. If you're up to
paying a bit more, Posada Freeman, a nicely restored
midrise hotel from the '50s that's up the street from
La Siesta, probably has its own parking (though I'm
not positive). La Siesta runs about $35 a night,
whereas Posada Freeman is in the $100 range.

much like venerable motels in the U.S.
You can stand on the balcony of your room
and survey the swimming pool scene.  Very nice choice.  --
